Direction Gaisano Mall

Few days ago, I decided to make a little walk in the direction of Gaisano Mall - or more commonly called G-Mall by the local people.

Il y a quelques jours, j'ai décidé de me faire une petite marche en direction du Gaisano Mall - ou plus communément dénommé G-Mall par les locaux.

Departing from the place I reside - New Matina - I walked along the E. Quirino Avenue toward the Mall, for one to go to National Book Store to buy one or two things, and for another part to go to EuroCafe (EuroBaker) to drink my usual caffe latte (for us in Belgium it's the another name for Lait Russe "Russian Milk")

Partant du lieu où je réside - New Matina - j'ai longé l'Avenue E. Quirino jusqu'au Mall, d'une part pour me rendre au National Book Store pour faire un ou deux achats, et d'autre part pour me rendre à l'EuroCafe (Eurobaker) pour me boire mon habituel "cafe latte" (pour nous en Belgique c'est l'autre nom du Lait Russe).

I had to do my walk before 12h am, because after that it's really too hot.

Il a fallu que je fasse ma marche avant 12h, car après ça il fait vraiment trop chaud.

Point of departure - The bridge passing above the river in New Matina - this one goes straight to the sea a little bit further.

Point de départ - Le pont passant au-dessus de la rivière à New Matina - celle-ci se dirige directment vers la mer qui se trouve un peu plus loin.

Interesting to see the incredible difference between hyper-modern building and the normal wood house just side by side. Something particularly strange for someone coming from Brussels like me where, if my memory is correct, wooden house in the city is forbidden (only brick houses are permitted)

 

Il est intéressant de voir l'incroyable différence entre des bâtiments hyper-modernes et les maisons en bois habituelles l'un à côté de l'autre. Ceci est particulièrement étrange pour quelqu'un comme moi venant de Bruxelles où les maisons en bois sont, si je me souviens bien, interdites (uniquement des maisons en briques sont permises).

Ok, here I am - Ok, me voici.

Few days far from my blog.

Quelques jours loin de mon blog.

I've done some few pictures which are in my phone. This one being out of service (O joy!), I will have to take out my pictures which I left inside. So no pictures for this time.

J'ai fait quelques photos qui sont dans mon téléphone. Celui-ci étant hors-service (O joie!), Je vais devoir ôter mes photos que j'ai laissé dedans. Donc, pas de photos cette fois-ci.

Talking of my phone. It's a Blackberry Curve 8520. It's good to know that the Blackberries are locked for a certain region where you buy it (a little bit like the iPhone). I was somewhat surprised when I arrived in the Philippines, usually when I buy something I want to be able to use it wherever I go - after all it's my phone from the time I buy it.

A propos de mon téléphone. Il s'agit d"un Blackberry Curve 8520. Il faut savoir que les Blackberry sont cadenassés par rapport à certaine région où vous l'achetez (un peu comme l'iPhone). Bonjour la surprise à mon arrivée aux Philippines. Habituellement quand j'achète quelque chose je veux pouvoir l'utiliser quel que soit l'endroit où je me rends - après tout c'est mon téléphone une fois que je l'ai acheté.

Looking into the forums, I’m clearly not the only one to have problems with my BB.

A voir les forums, je ne suis manifestement pas le seul à avoir des problèmes avec mon BB.

Normally you can unlock it for an amount being aroun 30 to 70 dollars by RIM (the developer of Blackberry). Sorry, but we should not joke – tat phone cost more than 250 euros when I had it. It is enough to be able to use it wherever I go in the World. So, I did something simple, I made unlocked by a technician here for few Pesos… and I could use it… during two weeks without problems.

Normalement vous pouvez le décadenasser pour une somme qui se situe entre 30 et 70 dollars chez RIM (le développeur de Blackberry). Il faut ne faut pas déconner non plus – ce téléphone avait un coût dépassant les 250 euros au moment où je l’ai eu. C’est suffisant pour pouvoir m’en servir où je veux dans le monde. J’ai donc fait simple, je l’ai fait décadenasser ici par un technicien pour quelques pesos… et j’ai pu l’utiliser… pendant deux semaines sans problèmes.

Now, suddenly after two weeks, for whatever reasons, it refuses to connect on any network whatever the Sim Card I put inside. So ok, will buy an other phone – a Nokia. With them no trouble at all, and piss off Blackberry. Don’t want to lose my time anymore with that company (sad in a way, because they are excellent phone).

Maintenant, soudainement après deux semaines, et pour une raison que j’ignore, il refuse de se connecter à l’un des réseaux quelle que soit la carte Sim que j’installe. Donc, ok, je vais acheter un nouveau téléphone : un Nokia. Avec ceux-là aucuns problèmes, et merde à Blackberry. Je n’ai plus envie de perdre mon temps avec cette Société (c’est triste en un sens, car ce sont de très bon téléphone).

Except this, this today I've gone to the SSS Bureau in Davao with my wife. SSS stand for Social Security here. You pay for it by putting some money on a "social account". Globally it's a kind of bank deposit but for Social Welfare.

Hormis cela, aujourd'hui je me suis rendu au Bureau SSS à Davao avec mon épouse. SSS est l'abréviation pour la Sécurité Sociale ici. Vous payez pour celui-ci en déposant de l'argent sur un "compte social". En gros, ça ressemble à un dépôt bancaire mais pour une couverture sociale.

Anyway. I really enjoy my staying here. It's a nice place to be,and the Filipinos are really nice people - enjoying life as it comes, and doing there best to cope with daily difficulties.

Quoi qu'il en soit, je sis vraiment content de mon séjour ici. Cette un agréable endroit, et les Philippins sont vraiment chouettes - jouissant de la vie comme elle vient, et donnant le meilleur d'eux-même pour gérer les difficultés du quotidien.
